10th Annual Gorilla Run!

The Annual Edmonton Gorilla Run is back again! We welcome our returning participants and are excited to meet the first timers!

The Edmonton Gorilla Run is a community event made up of a 1K Little Gorilla Run, 5K and 10K Walk / Run. It is a hilarious sight to see as hundreds of gorillas make their way through Edmonton's river valley wearing a gorilla suit with some dressing up their costume to participate in the "Gorilla Costume Contest".

This race is like no other in Edmonton!

The Edmonton Gorilla Run started ten years ago after talking with Mr. Frank Keesling, the President of the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund in Denver, CO. Frank and his team organize the highly successful Denver Gorilla Run and together we were able to bring his idea to Edmonton!
​
Over the past ten years, the funds generated from the Edmonton Gorilla Run have gone towards helping to expand the Ruth Keesling Wildlife Health and Research Center at the Makerere University in Kampala Uganda. This facility includes two main lecture rooms, two large scale research laboratories, postgraduate and grant research offices, and a Wildlife Disease Surveillance Biohazard Level 1 Bio Bank, which houses wildlife infectious diseases such as West Nile Virus, Avian Flu, Ebola, etc. for research in the same facility.

About Us
Today, our goal is to increase the number of veterinarians in the field, to monitor and provide the highest level of veterinary care for the mountain and lowland gorillas.
​
Our focus is to provide financial assistance to African students pursuing a university education in veterinary medicine in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Uganda.
​
We would like to thank everyone for their support over the last ten years.

Who can Participate?
Our race is open to people of all skill levels and who are ready for a good time!

Do you Need a Gorilla Suit?
No, you do not need a Gorilla Suit to participate in our race, but we encourage you all to bring out your inner Gorilla!
For those who wear their suit, we strongly encourage you to "Be Creative" because we have a Gorilla Costume Contest starting at 9:30 am.
